The project targets to improve income of ethnic minority women and their families in selected communes in Bat Xat and Muong Khuong districts through upgrading indigenous pig value chain. This is an entry point for sustainable poverty reduction and gender relation improvements in ethnic minority communities in the province. Yet, the increase of women's income is not automatically transformed to the improvement of power relation between men and women. However, controlling monetary income is meaningful to women as it is a foundation for a gender equality bargaining process. Thus, the gendered maket approach is the key to achieve the project goal "Poor ethnic minority women in Lao Cai will enjoy greater gender equality within their household and society in respect to men through their improved income". All the actors that have the relationship with the advancement of ethnic women in terms of WEL in general and within indigenous pig value chain in particular will be explored and mobilised through the project design and implementation for the greater and sustaible project results and impacts. The ethnic women who produce indigenous pig are the center of the project activities. At first, women small scale pig producers will equipped the knowledge and skills on pig breeding to make sure that they are able to increase their pig herd volume and quality. Then they will learn the knowledge and skills on household ecomic management, business development that enable them fell more confidence and active engage in the market economy. These activities will contribute to the increase of women income directly. SIDA have indicated interest in supporting a Phase 2 of the programme that takes learning from the current phase to adapt the design and that is more ambitious in scale. The timeframe for developing a proposal for "GRAISEA 2" is roughly until March 1st, 2018. The long timeframe should not be used to encourage complacency – the complexities of developing and managing a programme with so many countries, different affiliates and such a mixture of partners we will have a development phase for the new programme. Multi stakeholder initiatives: GRAISEA 2 collaborates with and influences sectoral multi -stakeholder initiatives (MSIs), as a means to reach more companies and to influence standards to be more supportive of women's economic empowerment and climate resilience. National policy: To create a more enabling environment for inclusive and responsible business, advocacy is supported on sector -based policy as well as on national frameworks for the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Regional policy: To support a regional enabling environment, the programme engages with a number of Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) institutions and frameworks including the regional strategy for business and CSR and regional Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) policy.
