Enterprises are carefully screened and approved by an independent investment committee. They receive an intelligent mix of loans, grants, and business development services. They tend to be more marginalised, physically and economically, than the SMEs supported by banks and mainstream investors. EDP works closely with local business development service providers, financial institutions, governments, universities, Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs), and mentors. Through a portfolio of viable and growing enterprises EDP supports the creation of new jobs and sustainable income generating opportunities, focused on empowering women as suppliers, employees and decision makers. Evidence from the programme is used to influence local governments and donors as well as international impact investors.
