Oxfam Education offers a huge range of ideas, resources and support for developing global learning in the classroom and the whole school. This funding will enable Oxfam to develop a range of resources such as: Global Citizenship Guides - Aimed at teachers in all subjects, and across all age groups, our global citizenship guides introduce the key elements of Oxfam's Curriculum for Global Citizenship, as well as providing case studies outlining best practice in the classroom, activities that can be adapted for use in many curriculum areas, and resources for further reading. Even it up! - Oxfam is creating a cross -curricular resource, Even It Up! for 11 -14 year olds in partnership with Young Lives, to be published in October 2015. The lessons will be based on data and interviews gathered by Young Lives, an international research project into the causes and consequences of children's poverty and will explore issues of inequality. The project has been following the lives of 12,000 children in Ethiopia, India, Peru and Vietnam over 15 years. The whole resource will consist of: two introductory lessons, six geography lessons. six maths lessons, six English lessons, Reflection. We also plan to produce a special set of these resources designed to support teaching and learning with students who have special educational needs. Oxfam Water Week - Provides opportunities for young people to learn and think critically about water issues, before taking informed and meaningful action. Water Week can be held at any time of year, but many schools find the summer term works well. The resources have been streamlined for 2015 to enable schools to complete activities in just one or two sessions, but they retain flexibility for extension. Youth Ambassadors - For a brighter tomorrow, young people must speak up against poverty, and for a fairer and more just society. The GLP is a five -year programme running from 2013–2018. It aimed to support teachers to deliver effective teaching and learning about development and global issues at Key Stages 2 and 3 (pupils aged 8 to 14). The premise is that teachers who are more confident and able in global learning will adapt their teaching to incorporate global themes, and encourage whole -school change. This in turn will lead to enhanced global learning outcomes for pupils. The GLP uses a network model to engage schools, where Expert Centres act as hubs to recruit and support teachers in local Partner Schools. The programme has a revised target to reach 7,500 schools (over the five years), a third of the schools in England. Teachers will receive training through attending twilight sessions in their clusters. Schools can also access funding for Continuous Professional Development (CPD) through accredited providers. DEVA54 covers an extension period of activities taking place from the end of March to the end of July 2018. This work currently focuses primarily (99%) on the Valuing Women's Work Global Strategy. The project will broadly aim to influence policies, practices, narratives and values among key decision -makers in private and public sectors, and the general public; and to work closely with partners to support/join their influencing/programmatic activities and achieve shared goals. The project will entail engagement with key stakeholders including people with lived experience, Third Sector organisations and coalitions/civil society movements, as well as potentially strategic alliances with private sector, policy stakeholders and decision -makers at national and local level across the UK (including devolved nations, through coordination with Oxfam Scotland and Wales, and devolved local authorities in England). This project will host restricted (lightly or fully) funded activities (not unrestricted, which are currently (FY23) hosted in IMPA10. We are planning a research programme around the idea of ‘decent work' – a concept which has had increasing currency in civil society discussions, and chimes with the Scottish Government's ‘fair work' agenda. The aim of the research is to establish what the public – particularly seldom heard groups and women and men with experience of low -paid, low -skill jobs – think constitutes ‘decent work' and what kinds of work and employment practices are barriers to it. This aim, which is influenced by Oxfam's Humankind Index, is being pursued through a ‘core project' using a survey, focus groups, interviews and social media engagement. Focusing on 'economically inactive' women aged 25+, not in education or training, who have complex barriers to employment in Cardiff, this project will combine practical work experience with a unique, person -centre package of support, professional coaching, and peer to peer networking. It will take women on a journey from economic inactivity to progressing closer to or entering the labour market, with the aim of progressing into decent work once employed. This project will seek to support 75 women to increase their skills base and sustainability of their livelihoods, of whom 30 will undertake work placements and 15 will be able to get and sustain work as a result. The project will deliver three core activities: 1 - offer women 1 -2 -1 and group support by partner Livelihoods Worker using the Sustainable Livelihoods Approach who will offer holistic support; 2 - - offering women a supported volunteer placements [in an Oxfam shop with in -shop retail skills training] matched with professional coach for personal/professional growth; 3 - offering women monthly bespoke workshop sessions and opportunities for peer to peer networking with other women from the project to increase skills and social capital.
